Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Inspiring a love of reading

We are pleased to offer the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to children in our region.  This initiative is part of our Ready For Kindergarten program and is organized in partnership with The Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley.

Currently, through the program, every child up until their fifth birthday in the Camden, Dolgeville, and Utica City School Districts receives one high-quality, age-appropriate book in the mail per month at no cost to families.  This program started in September 2023 and continues to be offered today through Ready 4 Kindergarten.

Ready 4 Kindergarten and the Genesis Group’s Literacy Program are committed to doing everything we can to putting more books in the hands of children.

Exposing small children to books is a fundamental step in their early development. Additional school districts can easily partner to receive Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library books by contacting Robin Robinson at 315-880-0551.

Language Development

Reading to children from a young age helps them develop language skills. They learn new words, sentence structures, and vocabulary, which can enhance their ability to communicate effectively.

Early Literacy Skills

Exposure to books at a young age lays the foundation for literacy. Children learn about letters, words, and the concept of reading from left to right. This early exposure can lead to better reading and writing skills as they grow.

Emotional and Social Development

Reading books with children can be a bonding experience. It provides an opportunity for caregivers to engage with children emotionally and teach them about empathy, emotions, and social interactions through the characters and stories.

Interest in Learning

Encouraging a love for books can foster a lifelong love for learning. Children who are exposed to books early on are more likely to become curious, inquisitive, and motivated learners.

Preparation for School

Reading readiness is a crucial aspect of preparing children for school. Children who have been exposed to books are often better prepared for the academic challenges of school, including reading comprehension and literacy-related tasks.

Since launching in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has become the world’s preeminent early childhood book gifting program. The Imagination Library mails more than 1.7 million high-quality, age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth to age five.
